We at Almika see the pain points that sales reps tend to have. This guide is here to help reps quickly assess if a customer is likely to qualify before spending time on a full loan application. Ask the right questions early — save time and effort.
What We Ask on the Loan Application:
- Full Name
- Loan Amount & Terms
- Property Address
- SSN & DOB
- Contact Info & Employment Status
- Citizenship Status
- Income
Pre-Qualifying Questions Reps Should Ask:
- Is the property a single-family residential home? (No condos, mobile/manufactured homes, or trailers)
- Is the system roof-mounted? (Ground mounts in Texas not allowed)
- Does the applicant’s name match the deed exactly? (No nicknames)
- Is the deed in an individual's name? (Trusts, partnerships, businesses not allowed)
- Has the applicant filed for bankruptcy in the past 7 years?
- Any loan payments 30+ days late in the past 12 months?
- Is the applicant (or co-borrower) over 65? If so, do they meet enhanced protections?
- Are there existing solar loans or UCC liens on the home?
Important Underwriting Do’s:
- Make sure the HIC matches Financing Docs and Portal.
- Take all required project pictures.
- Confirm borrower & co-borrower signatures.
- Prepare the customer for a pre-install welcome call and post-install satisfaction call.
Important Underwriting Don’ts:
- Don’t include disallowed adders: cash rebates, A/C, roofing, lightbulbs, water heaters.
- Don’t use nicknames on loan documents.
- Avoid designs with flat/incomplete consumption or low efficiency (<1,250 kWh/W).
- Add-on systems must meet stricter criteria.
